Rules of the British Captains Tournament 2008

The British Captains Tournament is open to both Gentlemen and Lady Captains of UK golf clubs which are affiliated to the relevant County Golf Union.
Each Captain is invited to enter a team consisting of themselves and three fellow members, all of whom must be members of your club as on the qualifying date.
Gentleman Captains may only elect to include gents in their teams and similarly Lady Captains may only elect to include ladies in their teams. Separate competitions are held for both Lady and Gent Captains’.

To qualify for the tournament the Captain must be serving in office and all team members must be full members of the same club as at 31st July 2008 and the designated team entry fees must be paid.

The maximum handicap for Men is 24 and for Ladies 32.

Valid handicap certificates must be produced at registration for both the regional qualifying rounds and the finals in Portugal

There will be 4 regional qualifiers for Men and 4 for Ladies, with a maximum entry of 40 teams per venue.

Venues will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and when full then an alternative venue will be allocated.

In the event of all regional qualifiers being full then the tournament organisers reserve the right to either add a supplementary venue or unfortunately refuse the entry.

Each regional qualifier will consist of an 18 hole stableford competition. Captains will play off their full handicaps and will score on every hole. The remaining team members will play off ¾ handicap and will count the best score on each hole to be added to the Captains’ score.

The winning team will be the team returning the highest points score. In the event of a tie for first place the winner will be decided by the teams’ best back 9, 6, 3 and if still tied then the Captains individual stableford score shall count and if still tied then the Captains’ back 9, 6, 3 shall decide the winner.

The winning Mens team and the winning Ladies team from each regional qualifier will be offered a place at the Grand Finale in Portugal during 11th~15th December 2008.

Should the place not be accepted by the winning team then it will be offered to the second place team only.

If required, it is permissible for a Captain to be substituted by his or her Vice-Captain in either the Regional Qualifier or the Grand Finale providing this is done within the timetable laid down in the tournament schedule.

Similarly it will be permissible to substitute a team member who has played in the Regional Qualifier with another member for the Grand Finale, providing that the substitute is a bona-fide full member of the Captains’ own club, and was so as at the qualifying date, and the administration fee is paid.

Any changes are subject to acceptance by Monarch Airlines and the Hotel Vila Galé Ampalius and we cannot be responsible for their decisions.

The Grand Finale will be based at the Hotel Vila Galé Ampalius in Vilamoura, Portugal where all finalists will be accommodated in superior, sea view rooms with bed & breakfast, based on 2 sharing. Single room supplements are available at extra cost. You are free to dine as you please on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

All team members will benefit from free flights either from Manchester or London Gatwick to Faro. Golf clubs will be carried free of charge.

At Faro airport you will be met by a Link Events representative and shown to your hire car, for transfer to the hotel with the rest of your team.

A Welcome Drinks Reception will be held at the hotel on your first evening and then on Friday you have reserved tee times for your practice round at the Oceânico Laguna course. On Saturday we start the two day final of the tournament at Oceânico Pinhal, then the final day is played at Oceânico Millenium and culminates in a Prize Presentation Dinner at the Pinhal Restaurant. On Monday you will return with your hire car to Faro Airport in time for your return flights to the U.K.
